Disabilities services

Student diversity at PHCC The office of disabilities services is proud to offer the programs, facilities and services for students with disabilities attending PHCC. We are responsible for coordinating services and working to ensure that each student has the opportunity to maximize his/her educational experience. The college offers a wide range of support services for students with disabilities.

PHCC is constantly striving to become more aware of the individual needs of students with various types of disabilities. We work continually to provide the support and services where they are needed and where our resources allow. Our wide variety of support services to students with disabilities attending PHCC include:

note-takers
scribed exam
extended time
alternative location
adaptive equipment
sign language interpreters
modification of test presentation response format
use of tape recorder in class
modified furniture

Adaptive equipment

The office of disabilities services at PHCC offers a wide range of adaptive equipment to enhance the students learning process including:

JAWS - screen reader software
Window-Eyes - screen reader software
Zoomtext - screen magnification software
Aladdin magnifiers
Jouse - adaptive mouse
Trackerball Mouse
Dragon Dictate software
Kurzweil Reading Edge reader

Mission statement

The PHCC office of disabilities services ensures that students with appropriately documented disabilities have the same educational opportunities as all other students and provide reasonable accommodations and support services to those students. Consistent with the mission of this office is the effort to engender specific skills and attributes to the student such as: self advocacy; persistence; motivation; and, the value of hard work. This office will also seek to ensure that employees with documented disabilities are provided any necessary reasonable accommodations to perform their jobs successfully.
