James E. Johnson
Head coach and athletic director
Coach James E. Johnson comes to PHCC with over 23 years of athletic and administration experience. He served as head men’s basketball coach and the athletic director at Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Ark. In his four years of leadership at Philander Smith College, he changed the college athletics program from participating in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) sports organization to participating in a recognizable and highly competitive sports organization, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). He began a new sports program and directed the college sports program in joining the competitive Gulf Coast Athletic Conference as a Division I member.
As the head men’s basketball coach at Philander his 2010-2011 team earned runner-up champion in the NAIA/Association of Independent Institutions Conference. His team had two players who earned All-Conference honors. In his tenure with PSC and as an assistant men's coach, the team was the runner-up champion in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National in 2006. Over the course of his coaching career he coached several honorable mention All-American candidates and a few Academic All-American candidates.
His previous coaching experience includes working at the NAIA, NCAA Division I and semi-professional levels. For nine years he was an assistant men’s basketball coach at Western Washington University (1989-98) and a graduate assistant at the University of Arizona (1994-96) under top Division I coaches Lute Olsen and Joan Bonvinici.
Coach Johnson earned his bachelor’s degree from Western Washington University in 1989 and completed his master’s degree in education in 1996 from the University of Arizona. He has four children, Timothy, Thomas, Tiffany, and Trent.
Larry Behm
Assistant basketball coach
Larry Behm is a native of central New York. Before coming to PHCC he was a successful high school coach in Syracuse. His teams won 327 games that included numerous leagues, NYS sectional and regional championships. In 2009 his team advanced to the NYS final four.
Coach Behm is a graduate of Eastern New Mexico University. He is married, has two daughters and a granddaughter.

Micheal Jones
Assistant basketball coach
Micheal Jones has coached at the middle and high school levels of basketball for seven years. This is his second year as an assistant coach at the college level. Micheal also played two years at PHCC under Coach Bowman where he was All-Conference in 2001 and also made the All-Star team in 2001 as an NJCAA athlete in the state of Florida. He also competed two years at the state tournament under Coach Bowman's philosophy.
Coach Jones earned a BS degree from Florida State University, 2004. He also earned an MS degree from Nova Southeastern University, 2011, and he has been a specialist in strength and conditioning since 2009.
