The science department at PHCC exists to prepare students to further their education at a four-year institution or to enter programs leading to an associate degree in health professions. The opportunities provided include courses in chemistry, biology, human anatomy and physiology, microbiology, physical science, physics, environmental science, oceanography, astronomy and geology.
The science department will provide:
- Postsecondary instruction in science that will be of sufficient rigor to challenge the intellect, and produce knowledgeable and capable learners
- A firm foundation in the biological and physical sciences that ensures the ability to grasp more complicated concepts in any baccalaureate institution’s major health programs
- State-of-the-art course content and educational methodologies designed to keep students abreast of modern developments in the many fields of science
- Opportunities to enhance interest in the sciences by attending seminars, exhibitions, and presentations that relate directly to course content
- Training in laboratory techniques that develop skills in observation, scientific reportage, and decision making
- A learning environment that is learning-centered and student-focused
- An opportunity for students to appreciate the interrelationships among the sciences and the relationships between the sciences and other liberal arts disciplines
